Networking is terrible.

There. I said it.

But meeting interesting people? Hearing a great story? Discovering a place, idea or bottle of wine you’d never heard of?

That’s fun.

Maybe we don’t need to get better at networking.

Maybe we just need to get better at talking to each other.

Crazy concept, I know.

Try this next time...skip “What do you do?” and instead ask:
“What’s something you’ve discovered lately that you can’t stop telling people about?”

A restaurant. A book. A place. A person. A bottle of wine. A weird piece of history.

Now you have something to talk about.
