Are You Explaining or Confusing?

On a family trip, while standing at daybreak on the shores of Tofino, British Columbia, I watched the morning fog retreat from the mountains. As eagles soared above the emerging landscape, it hit me: I was witnessing the perfect metaphor for what stalls most business transformations...

💡 What obscures our business value isn't the absence of brilliance; it's too much of it. Just as fog temporarily hides majestic beauty, expertise can hide our true value from those who need it most.

I recently coached developers from a technical firm who were so immersed in code they'd forgotten how to speak in terms clients could understand. During meetings, they'd excitedly dive into framework architectures while their prospects' eyes glazed over with fatigue. The expertise paradox was on full display, their technical knowledge was creating barriers rather than bridges. Let's be honest, no one has ever walked away from a meeting thinking, "I wish that pitch had included MORE technical jargon." Client fatigue is real, and excessive technical language was killing their opportunities before they even began.

⭐𝗧𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗶𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗲𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗿𝘁𝗶𝘀𝗲 𝗽𝗮𝗿𝗮𝗱𝗼𝘅: 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗱𝗲𝗲𝗽𝗲𝗿 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗸𝗻𝗼𝘄𝗹𝗲𝗱𝗴𝗲 𝗴𝗿𝗼𝘄𝘀, 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗱𝗲𝗿 𝗶𝘁 𝗯𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗲𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝘃𝗮𝗹𝘂𝗲.⭐

📊 The breakthrough? We held "translation workshops" and had them write short stories about customer problems without using technical terms. Their "Aha Moments" came when they realized they could explain complex solutions through simple analogies using everyday language. One story about "helping a store owner see which products customers pick up but never buy" resonated infinitely better than discussions about "optimizing conversion analytics frameworks."

Ask yourself: can you easily explain to your grandparents or tweens what your company does? If not, you might be hiding behind expertise rather than harnessing it! 🎯

I believe true mastery isn't shown in complexity but in clarity. When that fog of expertise lifts, the view becomes absolutely breathtaking. ✨
